How does therapy work?
Therapy is a unique experience for everyone. I will usually learn about your struggles, understand the context for why you haven’t been able to overcome them until now, and collaborate to develop feasible and relevant goals you’d like to work towards. I may ask in depth about your history, I may assign homework or readings, and I will always give you practical therapeutic tools that you can use to help you navigate life and pursue becoming your best self.
If you have any questions about what this might entail for you specifically, please contact me with your questions or schedule a free initial consultation so I can provide you with more specific information..

How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?
The clients I work best with are people struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression, or who feel ‘stuck’ in one way or another. I seek to understand you for who you are, who you want to be, and give you tools and guidance to help that imagined best-self become a reality. I usually only work with adults but may occasionally work with teens if I believe we are a very good fit. While this is not an exhaustive list, it gives you a general idea of my practice.
For more specialized mental health concerns such as Dissociative Identity Disorder, personality disorders, or psychosis, I would most likely not be a good fit. If we aren’t a good fit I will do my best to refer you to someone else who will better support your needs.

Do you take insurance?
I do accept certain insurance providers. Please check out my profile on Headway which will have the up to date list of which insurance companies I currently work with.
If your insurance company is not one which I accept, I can create a superbill for you to submit to your insurer to attempt to help you get reimbursement.

What is your cancellation policy?
Notice: Please provide at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. You can call, text, or email.
Rescheduling: Avoid fees by rescheduling within the same week or switching to telehealth if unable to attend in person.
Fees: Late cancellations & no-shows incur a $150 fee. Exceptions are made for contagious illness, emergencies, or unavoidable situations (e.g., jury duty). Forgetting an appointment is not considered unavoidable.
Lateness: If you're more than 15 minutes late, your appointment may be canceled, and a fee will be charged. More than two late cancellations or no-shows in a row may result in removal from the schedule or discharge.
Court-Related Cases: Additional fees may apply for phone calls, court appearances, or document preparation related to court cases.
This policy is in place to ensure that appointments are available for those in need and to maintain the financial health of my practice. Missed appointments can delay your progress and impact the availability of services for others.

What is the difference between therapy and coaching, which should I choose?
Therapy and coaching serve different purposes, depending on your needs. Therapy focuses on understanding and addressing deeper emotional issues, unworkable narratives, and lifelong patterns. It's ideal for those with conditions like OCD or depression, seeking to gain insight and make meaningful changes in their lives. If you’ve been struggling for a long time therapy is usually the best way to shift deeply entrenched patterns or beliefs.
Coaching, on the other hand, is more directive and action-oriented, meeting you where you are now and helping you move forward. It's best suited for individuals who are generally functional but feel stuck and need support in setting and achieving goals. Choose therapy for deeper exploration and healing; choose coaching for immediate, goal-oriented progress.
If you have questions as to which might be a better fit please mention as such during our free initial conultation.

How do I know if therapy or coaching will help me?
Therapy can effectively address mental health challenges, but it requires a commitment to the process. Your success in therapy depends on your willingness to engage fully, attend sessions regularly, and practice the skills and techniques discussed. It's not a quick fix; rather, it's a lifestyle commitment that requires effort both in and outside of sessions.
Seeking therapy doesn't mean you're weak or that there is something wrong with you. It's a proactive step towards self-improvement and well-being showing your courage and motivation to enact change. Unlike conversations with friends or family, therapy provides a safe, unbiased space with a trained professional who can offer unique insights and guidance tailored to your needs.
“There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that's your own self.”
― Aldous Huxley
